History
History Intent:
At Bottesford Junior School we aim for pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of history. We want them to understand how each element of the past influences the next and how these impact on our lives today. Our history curriculum has been carefully crafted to inspire our children’s curiosity about the past and to know what life was like for the people who lived before them.
We want our pupils to know about the important places, people and events that have shaped the world they live in. The curriculum allows pupils to investigate and evaluate mistakes that were made in the past and to know how we can learn from these today. Historical sources are used to develop enquiry skills and the pupils are taught that different interpretations and bias can affect our understanding of the past. Opportunities are given for pupils to develop their critical thinking skills, to question, debate and develop perspective about how times have changed. Throughout the curriculum, the pupils gain a deeper respect and understanding of how society has become more diverse through migration and how this affects their lives today.
