Music
Music Intent:
At Bottesford Junior School music is part of the very fabric of our school and plays a pivotal role in our pupils’ social and cultural development. The activities undertaken from Year 3 to Year 6 aim to instil not only a wide range of musical skills to take forward into secondary school and beyond, but an understanding of the wider world, fostering an inherent curiosity in the diversity and breadth of all forms of art.
Music is a unique way of communicating that can inspire and motivate children, fostering their respect for many cultures, thus enabling them to better understand the world they live in.
It gives an opportunity for individual expression, and can play a key role in the personal development of an individual, often improving self-confidence, a sense of worth in school and allowing them to aspire to succeed.
Alongside being a creative, tactile and enjoyable activity which children approach with great enthusiasm, music can, and should be, an academic and demanding subject, which – like other subjects – challenges children to achieve increasingly higher standards. Through concerts at local churches and venues (such as Bottesford’s St Peter’s Church and The Salvation Army in Ashby), as well as those further afield (e.g. ‘Young Voices’ in Sheffield) it allows pupils to feel part of both the local and wider community.
