PSHE
PSHE Intent:
At Bottesford, our PSHE curriculum plays a central role in supporting children to become well-rounded, respectful and responsible citizens. Through the Jigsaw programme, we provide a warm, nurturing and structured approach to personal, social, emotional and health education, allowing every child to develop a strong sense of self and a deep understanding of the world around them.
The purpose of a high-quality PSHE curriculum is to provide pupils with the relevant knowledge, skills and understanding to enable them to make informed choicesconcerning their own well-being and that of the wider community. We teach children how to develop and maintain positive and healthy relationships, how to stay physically and emotionally safe, and how to understand themselves as they grow and change. This includes addressing moral, social and cultural issues they may encounter, and supporting them to develop empathy, respect and confidence.
Our curriculum is rooted in the values of community, resilience, enthusiasm, environmental responsibility and kindness. We encourage children to value themselves, recognise the importance of their actions and show commitment to caring for both people and the planet. We promote curiosity and openness in learning about mental and physical well-being and help pupils develop a strong sense of self-worth. Our aim is to foster children who are enthusiastic, thoughtful and resilient, ready to overcome challenges and contribute positively to their community.
At our school, we are responsible citizens and we want our children to thrive personally and socially, developing the awareness and confidence to understand their role in the world. We engage pupils with key topics such as mental health, relationships and financial awareness, encouraging them to reflect on their values and the impact of their choices. We equip children with resilience, empathy and a clear sense of identity, empowering them to make a meaningful difference in their own lives and in the lives of others.
