DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY
DT Intent:
At Bottesford Junior School, our Design and Technology curriculum develops children’s cultural capital by exposing them to a broad range of designers, engineers and innovators from diverse cultural backgrounds. This ensures that pupils understand how design shapes communities and industries across time and place.
Our intent is for children to become curious, creative and independent designers who can solve real and relevant problems through purposeful design and making. Pupils are encouraged to be adventurous in their thinking, to take risks and to make informed choices when selecting tools, materials and processes.
We promote responsibility, perseverance and resilience, recognising that learning often happens through trial and improvement. Pupils are supported to work collaboratively, showing kindness and respect for each other’s ideas and contributions. We celebrate both successes and failures, as these experiences develop confidence and a growth mindset.
We aspire for all pupils, regardless of ability, to enthusiastically evaluate their own work and the work of others, clearly communicating what they see, feel and think. Through this, pupils develop the skills and attitudes needed to succeed in future learning and beyond.
