Spelling at Bottesford Junior School

At Bottesford Junior School we use the Read Write Inc. Spelling programme to support children (Years 3 – 6) in becoming confident, accurate spellers. This highly-effective scheme builds on the phonics foundation of Read Write Inc. Phonics and features short, lively 15-minute daily lessons.

With Read Write Inc. Spelling children learn the routines of spelling: each unit introduces a new pattern or rule (such as alternative spellings of sounds, prefixes/suffixes, homophones) and consolidates learning through engaging partner-work, games and online “Spelling Zone” activities.

The result is that spelling is taught systematically and consistently, helping children to build secure skills and apply them confidently in their writing across the curriculum.
